Customer experience and operational efficiency don’t always point in the same direction. This project required balancing business goals with customer safety, making sure the verification process remained practical without compromising the standards customers expected.
The organization was evaluating changes to its background check process to improve the onboarding experience for service providers. While simplifying the process could reduce friction, it also introduced questions about customer safety, operational risk, and whether existing standards should change.
Before recommending changes, I worked to understand the operational, legal, and customer impacts. Every adjustment affected more than one team, so it was important to evaluate the full picture rather than optimizing for speed alone.
I partnered with stakeholders to review the proposed changes and assess where customer experience could be improved without weakening the controls designed to protect customers. The goal wasn’t to create more process. It was to maintain the right level of trust while keeping the experience as simple as possible.
When recommendations increased unnecessary risk, I spoke up. My responsibility wasn’t simply moving the project forward. It was helping leadership understand the tradeoffs so they could make informed decisions.
